Sophie Hope Flavell is a contemporary painter from the Kent coast. Her work is mainly abstract with a tendency toward landscapes and sea scapes. A lot of attention is given over to layers of paint, often reworking paintings over long periods of time. This often creates a dichotomy of surface textures in individual works. The employment of metallic spay paints and the vigorous reworking of surfaces creates a pleasing effect which emphasises the movement of light across the paintings. In their right environment the artworks should feel to interact with the people and spaces that they cohabit.
